2012’s Green Festival in New York April 21-22 Welcomes Cheetah Learning Among its Featured Vendors

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 14, 2012

Cheetah Learning (http://www.CheetahLearning.com), a member of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), will be in New York April 21-22 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center for the 2012 Green Festival, “the world’s premier event dedicated to sustainability, social justice and ecological balance.”

The Convention Center is at 655 West 34th Street. The festival takes place Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, April 22, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets at the door are per day or for a two-day pass. Cheetah Learning will be at Booth 710.

“To be a successful Project Manager, you also have to be good at creating sustainability projects,” says Cheetah’s CEO and founder Michelle LaBrosse, who noted that sustainability has replaced “maintainability and reliability,” the hot buttons when she was an Air Force officer in the 1980s.

“Sustainability is one of the ‘buzz words’ du jour,” observes LaBrosse. “You can’t pick up an article or turn on the news without hearing it.”

The Project Management Professionals (PMPs) at Cheetah Learning will be sharing their thoughts about sustainability and more at the 2012 Green Festival. Among them: The synergy that occurs when a Sustainability Professional gets Project Management Professional Certification and vice versa. The outcome: “The ability to competently and consistently lead sustainability projects.”

Sustainability Professionals considering Project Management as a way to enhance their proficiency portfolio should visit http://www.cheetahlearning.com/LinkTracker/track.asp?id=252 to learn more about how to become a Certified Project Manager as well as request Cheetah’s free Exam Prep SmartStart Guide for the PMP.

Meanwhile, project managers can contact Cheetah for a “Project Management Certificate for Sustainability Projects,” an online course designed to “develop skills to competently and consistently lead sustainability projects.”

Cheetah Learning has a track record of successful training: The company has been documented as having the highest audited continuous pass rate on the PMP exam for 10 years. In 2008, the Project Management Institute (PMI) recognized Cheetah as Professional Development Provider of the Year for the significant contribution it made with its accelerated approach to teaching and doing project management.

LaBrosse, a single mother of two, started Cheetah from scratch and grew it into a multi-million dollar powerhouse in the Project Management education field, a competitive arena with 1,600 providers who are PMI registered.

In recognition of her contributions, PMI selected LaBrosse as one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Project Management in the World. Her popular book, “Cheetah Project Management,” is available at http://www.cheetahlearning.com/LinkTracker/track.asp?id=253.

An avid advocate of social media, LaBrosse tweets at http://Twitter.com/MichelleCheetah and blogs at http://Blog.CheetahLearning.com.

Not Your Usual Science Fare – Beloved Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson Waxes Poetic on Poets Cafe For Poetry Month! Wednesday, April 11th at 8:30 PM PST, 90.7 FM

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 09, 2012

“Neil Tyson is the intergalactic space poet laureate of our time,” said Elliot Pulham, Space Foundation CEO. Host Lois P. Jones first discovered Neil deGrasse Tyson during his youtube interview at the Montclair Kimberly Academy. “I’d never heard anyone speak of the cosmos with so much passion and in such a poetic light. When Stephen Colbert teased Dr. Tyson about writing his own sonnets, Dr. Tyson playfully deflected the question, but I knew he was a poet in the broadest definition and would make a great guest for our show. I have since followed his trajectory of science programs and lectures on youtube and have purchased several books. The most recent collection, “Space Chronicles” (Norton, 2012) will be featured in part two of our interview. Both segments include Dr. Tyson reading his own poetry, or rhymes as he prefers to call them!”

This is a rare look at another side of Neil deGrasse Tyson as he shares insights into the relationship between science and poetry, his passion for pens and the written word, the larger view of what artists give the world and why rhyme and science make good partners.

Join Poets Café’s Facebook page for further information on this and future shows with Neil deGrasse Tyson. If you miss the show you can catch it in the archives in the coming weeks. http://www.timothy-green.org/blog/poetscafe/

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet On-Night-Only Performance Set For April 17th At The Lensic Performing Arts Center, A SantaFe . c o m Featured Business, In Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) April 05, 2012

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Santa Fe’s The Lensic Performing Arts Center, A Featured Business on SantaFe . c o m, the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet is bringing their March shows to town for a one-night-only encore performance. The event offers a special presentation for ballet fans with a total of three ballets coming to the stage from several showcase ballet choreographers including Norbert L. De La Cruz III, Boston Ballet Resident Choreographer Jorma Elo and Nicolo Fonte. Each choreographer brings a wealth of both dance ballet and choreographer career accolades to the stage. For ballet fans in and about Santa Fe and southwestern part of the United States the evening of the 17th of April is a great opportunity to see some amazing performances from a talented dance troupe led by a three very gifted and successful choreographers.

“Marvelous troupe, beautiful people who dance beautifully…what’s not to love?,” said Sid Smith of The Chicago Tribune.

ABOUT THE CHOREOGRAPHERS

Norbert L. De La Cruz III was born in the Philippines and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He embarked on his artistic journey as a dancer at 13 years of age, training at the Gabriella Axelrad Education foundation, The LA County HS for the Arts, ABT NYC, San Francisco Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Lines Ballet, and was scholarship recipient for the 2009 & 2011 summer of Netherlands Dans Theatre Dance Course. In May of 2010, Norbert graduated from The Juilliard School with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes.

His professional experience includes performing with the Metropolitan Opera House in their production of Aida, performing repertoire from choreographers such as Adam Hougland, David Parker, Johannes Wieland, Ohad Naharin, Jill Johnson and Aszure Barton. Norbert has toured internationally with Aszure Barton & Artists and Balletto Teatro di Torino (Italy). He has recently finished his season with Lustig Dance Theatre. He also pursues his talents in photography and continues to dance with a high emphasis on choreography and movement invention.

Jorma Elo, Boston Ballet Resident Choreographer. Finnish-born Jorma Elo is one of the most sought-after choreographers in the world. Elo, who was named Resident Choreographer of Boston Ballet in 2005, was singled out as a “talent to follow” by Anna Kisselgoff in her 2004 Year in Review for The New York Times. It was an astute observation. He has since created numerous works in the US and internationally, including Slice to Sharp for New York City Ballet, Glow-Stop and C. to C. (Close to Chuck) for American Ballet Theatre, Double Evil for San Francisco Ballet, Carmen for Boston Ballet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Vienna State Opera Ballet, Pur ti Miro for National Ballet of Canada, 10 to Hyper M for Royal Danish Ballet, and Offcore for Finnish National Ballet. His From All Sides debuted in 2007 for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, to a commissioned score from Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Mead Composer-in- Residence, Mark Anthony Turnage, and the piece was conducted by Maestro Esa-Pekka Salonen. Elo trained with the Finnish National Ballet School and the Kirov Ballet School in Leningrad. Prior to joining Netherlands Dance Theater in 1990, he danced with Finnish National Ballet from 1978 through 1984 and Cullberg Ballet from 1984 to 1990. For Boston Ballet, Elo has created six world premieres: Sharp Side of Dark (2002), Plan to B (2004), Carmen (2006), Brake the Eyes (2007), In On Blue (2008), and Le Sacre du Printemps (2009). Elo has received commissions from Netherlands Dance Theatre 1, Basel Ballet, Houston Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Stockholm 59° North, Alberta Ballet, Staatstheater Nurnberg, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Ballet X. He is also a skilled designer of costumes, lighting and video effects for his ballets. The 2005 Helsinki International Ballet Competition awarded Elo a choreographic prize and he is the recipient of the Prince Charitable Trust Prize and the Choo-San Goh Choreographic Award in 2006. Dance Magazine (April, 2007) featured Elo on their cover with a corresponding article, Pointe Magazine named him a Dance VIP of 2006, and Esquire Magazine named him a “Master Artist” in 2008.

Nicolo Fonte, Choreographer, was born in Brooklyn, New York and started dancing at the age of 14. He studied at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York as well as at the San Francisco Ballet and New York City Ballet Schools while completing a Bachelor Degree of Fine Arts at SUNY Purchase. Upon graduation he danced with Peridance in NYC and later joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal, dancing in the works of Balanchine, Tudor, Kudelka and Spaniard Nacho Duato. Fonte subsequently joined Duato’s Compañia Nacional de Danza in Madrid and forged a strong identity in the Spanish company for seven years – for both his dancing and his choreography. “En los Segundos Ocultos,” (“In Hidden Seconds”), one of three ballets Fonte made for the Spanish company, was hailed as a breakthrough work of great impact with the poetic vision of a mature artist and indeed this ballet established his presence on the European dance scene. In 2000 Fonte retired from performing to devote himself full-time to his choreographic career. Since that time he has created or staged his ballets for The Dutch National Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Stuttgart Ballet, The Australian Ballet, The Göteborg Ballet, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, The Washington Ballet, Ballett Mainz, Ballett Nürnberg, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, TANZ Ensemble Cathy Sharp, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Tulsa Ballet, Ballet British Columbia and Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal.

ABOUT THE VIOLINIST

Rare Factory Engraved New Haven Arms Company Henry Rifle being Auctioned Off at Rock Island Auction April 27th

Henry Rifle factory engraved by Samuel Hoggson 1865. This rifle and many other rare Henry’s, Colts, Deringers and more are up for auction in April.

Moline, IL (PRWEB) March 11, 2009

Rock Island Auction announces a Premiere Firearms auction to be held at their 23,000 sq. ft Auction Facility.

Investing and collecting opportunities abound at Rock Island’s fantastic Spring Premiere Auction to be held April 25th, 26th and 27th. At a time when the stock market changes daily, gun collectors are seeing the worth of their investments hold firm. Hard assets seem to be the place to invest your money in this market and the results at Rock Island indicate gun values continue to rise. This April auction has firearms for every level of collecting and Rock Island Auction’s sell through rate of over 97% proves that items that come to RIAC are for sale and now is your chance to make a solid investment.

Henry Lever Action Rifle

manufactured in February-March 1865 and factory engraved by Samuel Hoggson. The rifle has the standard brass receiver and butt plate, blued octagon barrel with brass front sight blade and folding adjustable leaf rear sight, loading lever with lever latch and lacquer finished walnut stock. The butt plate is the second pattern with sharply pointed heel.

The rifle has the extra cost sling swivel inlaid in the left side of the stock and sling loop screwed to the left side of the barrel. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: “HENRY’S PAT.OCT.16.1860/MANUFACT’D. BY THE NEWHAVEN ARMS.CO. NEWHAVEN.CT” using the slightly larger markings found on late production rifles. The serial number, “8202″ is stamped on the top barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver, on the lower left side of the receiver tang, in the upper tang inlet of the stock and on the inside of the butt plate. The late style, cap-type butt plate screws are correctly not serial numbered. The factory engraving on the rifle is the distinctive work of master engraver Samuel Hodgson. Both sides of the forward portion of the receiver are engraved with large, stylized, floral designs in bordered panels. The right side plate is engraved with flowing scroll-work on a punch-dot background with a scalloped border.

The left side plate features a game scene with a buck flanked by scroll-work on a punch-dot background. Scroll-work flourishes on punch-dot backgrounds are engraved on the sides and top of the receiver, the upper and lower receiver tang and the top of the butt plate heel. Identical Henry rifle engraving is illustrated on page

22 of “THE BOOK OF WINCHESTER ENGRAVING” by R.L. Wilson and on page 47 of “THE WINCHESTER BOOK” by George Madis. Most of the approximately 9000 Henry rifles manufactured by the New Haven Arms Company between April 1862 and May 1865, were standard rifles intended for sale to individual soldiers or purchased by the Ordnance Department. Relatively few factory engraved Henry rifles were manufactured during the Civil War and surviving examples are rare. The condition of this Henry is rated ‘Fine’. The engraved brass receiver and butt plate are in exceptional condition. You can read more on condition of this item on our website.

Dorrance Publishing Company Celebrates World Book and Copyright Day — April 23rd

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) April 16, 2009

Dorrance Publishing Company joins UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) in celebrating World Book and Copyright Day on April 23rd. The day strives to promote reading, publishing, and the protection of intellectual property rights throughout the world through the use of copyright. UNESCO’s stated initiative for 2009 is to “explore the paramount function of books for the development of quality education and the link between publishing and human rights.” Beirut has been declared the World Book Capital 2009.

To celebrate the occasion, during the month of April, Dorrance will make available to all who are interested a free special report – “Copyright and You”- that can be found at their on-line bookstore located at http://www.DorranceBookstore . c o m. Dorrance believes that books are more important today than ever before when the crises confronting the world will require educated populations in every land to explore the possibilities and find the answers for living together on this planet. Because books and copyright are driving forces for individual creativity throughout the world, the future of books and copyright concerns all people and all nations. Since Dorrance Publishing Company publishes authors from many countries all around the globe, the company strongly supports world copyright laws.

Why pay so much attention to world copyright laws? For one, copyright fosters creativity. Authors and publishers are more likely to devote time and energy to creative work when it will be protected from unfair use. Copyright law also promotes important industries, such as printing, publishing, multimedia, audio-visual, phonographic, cinematographic, crafts, and design. Copyright protection enhances international understanding in that the distribution of books is essential for the promotion of cultural diversity. Therefore it can be said that copyright protection promotes world peace. Piracy then is a threat to international economical and cultural development and, eventually, to the safety and stability of the world.

Copyright law is in fact national law, meaning each country is free to determine the extent of protection it will apply to authors and copyright holders within its own borders. There have been many international agreements with the purpose of extending copyright protection to foreign authors within nations, in addition to their own, that enjoy the fruits of their work. Some of these agreements are the Berne Convention of 1886 (revised in 1971), the Universal Copyright Convention of 1952 (revised in 1971), the TRIP Agreement of 1994 (having to do with trade and intellectual property rights), and the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) Copyright Treaty of 1996. The majority of countries today follow one of these agreements. In countries that have signed these agreements, foreign authors do enjoy the same rights as national authors.

These rights normally address national treatment, non-discrimination, and certain minimum standards regarding scope and duration of rights. Normally copyright lasts for the life of the author plus 50 years post mortem in the United States and 70 years post mortem in some other nations. If an author wishes to challenge the use of material, he or she must consult the copyright law in the country in which the protection is sought.

In the digital age, proponents of copyright and intellectual property law concentrate on anti-circumvention provisions to ensure that technology does not circumvent the protections of copyright and intellectual property rights. The scope and wide usage of the Internet however make this challenge ever more difficult. Recent controversies such as the Author’s Guild class action suit against Google for using snippets and extracts without permission and the ongoing battle between newspapers and news services and Google, the Drudge Report, and other Internet sites illustrate how managing rights and protecting content and its creators is changing to address the new world in which we now operate.

UNESCO instituted world Book and Copyright Day during its 1995 conference, citing that date as also the anniversary of the birth and death of William Shakespeare and the anniversary of the death or birth of many other world-famous authors. UNESCO’s concern for safeguarding copyright goes back, however, to at least 1952, at which time the Universal Copyright Convention was adopted under UNESCO’s aegis to promote international copyright protection.

The date April 23rd was originally connected with noting the importance of books in 1923 when booksellers in Catalonia, Spain designated the day as one to honor the author Miguel de Cervantes, who died on that date. It became part of the celebrations that took place on Saint George’s Day (also April 23rd) on which it had been tradition since the Middle Ages for men to give roses to their lovers. And since 1925, in exchange, women gave books.
