Camp and RV 3 Is Now Available For iPad

Camp & RV for iPad

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) October 4, 2010

AllStays.com has taken their top selling iPhone camping app called “Camp & RV” and rebuilt it to be a universal app for one price for all iOS devices. The new version adds a state and city manual search that works offline. The advantage of this is that even if a traveler doesn’t have internet service in the middle of a dense forest, they can still look ahead for camping options in another city on your trip.

Each location in the app has a detail view that includes a map, directions, phone number, a link to the official website and a easy way to report errors or make corrections.

If the camper is looking for something specific like State Parks or National Forest or just independently-owned campgrounds, they can select to view only those on both the map view and the manual view. The app includes many filters for all kinds of camping along with various truck stops, outdoor sporting goods and supplies stores, rest areas, RV dealers, overnight parking spots, low clearance locations and some others. It also includes mapping and user reports for which Walmart stores allow overnight parking for RVs and which do not.

“We had many requests to make Camp & RV available as a native app for the iPad,” says Adam Longfellow, the owner of travel website AllStays.com. “So using the high-resolution, larger screen and full rotation capabilities of the iPad became a high priority. We listen closely to customer feedback. Almost every change we make is driven by user requests and suggestions.”

When asked when the app would be available on Android devices, Adam said, “We want to try to support as many devices as possible and get our unique way of looking at and presenting camping information out to as many people as possible. The Android version will be released in the fall of 2010.”

AllStays.com, based in the state of New Mexico (US), lists all kinds of lodging, from primitive campgrounds and RV Parks to luxury hotels and spa resorts. AllStays also links directly to official websites to make sure you have the real scoop on the latest and most accurate information.

MLK and Thich Nhat Hanh Inspired “Peace is the Way” Film and 3D Animated Comic Book Campaign Launched on IndieGOGO.

Alfred Hassler and the
MLK Comic Book

Vienna, Austria (PRWEB) September 28, 2011

The first film in the series, “Walking with Alfred Hassler, Thich Nhat Hanh and Sister Chan Khong,” will reveal the superheroes interconnected and powerful stories, taking you on a journey from their first meeting in war-torn Vietnam to the “Arab Spring” in Tahir Square, Eqypt where Alfred Hassler´s idea in 1956 for the long forgotten “Montgomery Story” comic book about Martin Luther King, Jr., was translated into Arabic in 2009 and used in Eqypt’s nonviolent uprising.

According to the campaign website, the goal of the film is to show that there is a hero inside of every single one of us, and to provide concrete examples of how we can use nonviolent methods to change ourselves, and therefore the world.

“This film is about releasing to a diverse audience something that can do wonders for planting seeds of compassion, grace and love in a modern, easily accessible way.”

http://www.peaceisthewayfilms.com

A fundraising campaign for the part feature documentary, part animated comic book film has been launched on IndieGoGo, an international online crowd funding platform specializing in independent and innovative film projects.

http://www.indiegogo.com/peaceisthewayfilmseries1

The story of the making of this film series began at DePaul University in Chicago where Gregory Kennedy-Salemi, one of the founding project members, sat reading a copy of “Peace is the Way: Writings on Nonviolence from the Fellowship of Reconciliation,” a collection of essays and musings from some of the world’s preeminent leaders of the peace movement, including Martin Luther King, Jr., Alfred Hassler and Thich Nhat Hanh, whom Oprah Winfrey had on her show in 2010.

“Thich Nhat Hanh has been a Buddhist monk for more than 60 years, as well as a student at Princeton, a University professor at Columbia University, writer, poet, and vocal opponent of war—a stance that left him exiled from his native Vietnam for four decades. But beneath Nhat Hanh’s serene demeanor is a courageous warrior.

“The 84-year-old, who joined the monastery when he was 16, valiantly opposed his own government during the Vietnam War. Even as he embraced the contemplative life of a monk, the war confronted him with a choice: should he remain hidden away in the monastery tending to matters of the spirit, or go out and help the villagers who were suffering?

“Nhat Hanh’s decision to do both is what gave birth to “Engaged Buddhism”—a movement that involves peaceful activism for the purpose of social reform. Martin Luther King, Jr. called Nhat Hanh “an apostle of peace and nonviolence” and this is what led MLK to nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1967.”

From Oprah Winfrey talks to Thich Nhat Hanh

“The Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story” comic book was conceived in 1956 by the late Alfred Hassler, a former Fellowship of Reconciliation (F.O.R.) executive director and creative visionary, who worked closely with and supported other “superhero” visionaries, namely Thich Nhat Hanh, Sister Chan Khong, MLK, Erich Fromm, Bayard Rustin; the March on Washington organizer, and numerous others.

Alfred Hassler consulted directly with Martin Luther King, Jr. on the comic book, who wrote Alfred a letter saying that “Again, I would like to say what a fine piece of work this is. You have done a marvelous job of grasping the underlying truth and philosophy of the movement. I am sure that this comic book will be welcomed by the American public. Please feel free to call on me at any time.”

The comic book was a huge success, although it was dangerous to own one in the southern USA states. 240,000 original comics were printed although only 20 originals still exist today, with one being in the Smithsonian Museum.

Since its initial publication, the MLK comic book was translated into Spanish in 1960 and used throughout Latin America. The comic book has since then been translated into several languages, most recently into Farsi, where it is being used underground in Iran.

Sister Chan Khong, whose birthname is Cao Ngoc Phuong, was born in a Vietnamese village on the Mekong River Delta in 1938. Cao Ngoc Phuong began working at age 13 helping poor people in slums. In 1964, she joined Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.

Throughout the civil war in the country, she fed the hungry, built communes, buried the dead, and tried to be a serene presence in the midst of terrible violence. ”If we just worry about the big picture, we are powerless. So my secret is to start right away doing whatever little work we can do. I try to give joy to one person in the morning, and remove the suffering of one person in the afternoon. . . . That is the secret. Start right now.”

During the production of the film, Greg and Stu, the co-directors and co-producers, along with their film team, fondly referred to as the film team “sangha” (a Buddhist term for a spiritual community) have enabled their future audience to have an intimate look at all aspects of the film’s creation – from personal interviews to behind the scene comic book creation sneak previews – through regular video updates on their IndieGoGo campaign page and postings of research and new developments on the film’s homepage.

“Life waits patiently for true heroes.  It is dangerous when those aspiring to be heroes cannot wait until they find themselves. When aspiring heroes have not found themselves, they are tempted to borrow the world’s weapons, money, fame, and power to fight their battles. These weapons cannot protect the inner life of the hero. – Thich Nhat Hanh

Veterans’ Reimbursement for IEEE Computer Society Software Development Certifications Expanded Under GI Bill

The Certified Software Development Associate (CSDA) credential is intended for entry-level developers.

Los Alamitos, CA (PRWEB) September 28, 2011

Reimbursement for both of the IEEE Computer Society’s software development certifications has been expanded for veterans under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Under the bill, veterans are eligible for 100 percent reimbursement of the US 5 cost of taking the Certified Software Development Associate (CSDA) exam for entry-level developers and the 5 cost of taking the Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) exam for mid-level professionals.

The IEEE Computer Society also provides a 50 percent discount for unemployed veterans who would like to get started in preparing for the CSDA or CSDP certifications by taking the online assessment course.

“Being involved with the US Department of Defense and a Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP), I am very pleased that IEEE Computer Society is reaching out to the men and women who have served this country,” said Susan K. (Kathy) Land, 2011-2012 IEEE Division VIII Director and a chief engineer of product development with the US Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency’s Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) project.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.

Approved training under the Post-9/11 GI Bill includes graduate and undergraduate degrees, vocational/technical training, on-the-job training, flight training, correspondence training, licensing and national testing programs, and tutorial assistance. All training programs must be approved for GI Bill benefits.

The CSDA, currently being updated, is intended to provide undergraduate computer science and software engineering students their first credential toward a solid career foundation as a software development practitioner. The CSDP certification is intended for mid-career software development practitioners. The CSDA and the CSDP are the first two certifications that conform to the ISO/IEC 24773 standard, which stipulates methods of certifying software engineering professionals worldwide.

US President Barack Obama has proposed tax credits and training programs to spur hiring of the thousands of US service members returning from war in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Returning Heroes and Wounded Warrior Tax Credit provides up to ,600 to companies that hire unemployed veterans. Businesses are also being challenged to hire or provide training to 10,000 unemployed veterans or their spouses by 2016.

In addition, the departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs will lead a task force to ensure that members of the service receive the training, education, and credentials needed to transition to the civilian workforce or pursue higher education. Enhanced career-development and job-search packages will be available for veterans at the Department of Labor’s One Stop Career Centers in 23 cities.

Overall, employment of computer software engineers and computer programmers is projected to increase at a much faster average rate than for other occupations, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. In addition, CSDA and CSDP certifications are being recommended or required by more and more employers. To see a list of employers that support these certifications in their software development job descriptions, visit http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/Employers-Requiring-CSDA/P.

For more information, visit http://www.computer.org/vets. To see the CSDP and the CSDA listed, go to: http://inquiry.vba.va.gov/weamspub/buildSearchLCCriteria.do and click on Washington, DC.

Clean Energy Venture Summit Draws Record Crowd: Showcase of New Technology Highlights Texas’ Clean-Tech Future

Austin (PRWEB) October 6, 2010

The fourth annual Clean Energy Venture Summit (CEVS), a partnership between The Austin Technology Incubator (ATI) and Austin Energy drew an eye-opening 400 attendants, making it one of the largest clean-tech summits to be held in Texas.

During the summit, top green- and clean-tech visionaries from across the country, including one from Israel and another from Canada, discussed new technologies and explored efforts by local companies to make Texas the renewable energy leader for the 21st century. Topics included “the utility of the future”, green buildings, clean transportation and the smart grid.

Former Shell Oil Company executive and author, John Hofmeister, presented the keynote address for the summit, discussing how he feels the government is working against clean, affordable energy solutions and how citizens can change the course through grass-roots efforts.

“The overwhelming support of this conference highlights the public and private efforts to find solutions for America’s dependence on foreign energy and the growing carbon footprint as Texas enters a new age of energy leadership,” said Isaac Barchas, director, Austin Technology Incubator and conference organizer. “These technologies have global applicability and are of great interest to consumers, utilities and investors.”

Twenty start-up companies competed for an opportunity to deploy in Austin’s million smart-grid and smart-home demonstration project. CEVS serves as a gateway for early-stage companies to participate in the nationally acclaimed Pecan Street Project Energy Internet Demonstration, a non-profit smart grid and clean energy research and development organization headquartered at the University of Texas at Austin.
