Montclair State University School of Business Team Makes CFA Institute Research Challenge® Final Four

Montclair, NJ (PRWEB) February 14, 2012

The New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) announced that Montclair State University’s School of Business team has won a coveted spot as one of the final four teams in this year’s New York Regional Final of the CFA Institute Research Challenge®.

“I am honored and proud to work with these intelligent and dedicated students,” says Economics and Finance Professor Susana Yu, who co-advises the team along with Associate Professor Herman Sintim.

School of Business team members Francesco Colombo, Stefan Genzor, Drew Heimlich, Michael Polifonte, and Parth Shah bested more than 20 other teams from top area business schools with their written report and presentation on MICROS Systems, Inc, the world’s leading developer of enterprise applications servicing the hospitality and specialty retail industries.

Sponsored by CFA Institute, the Research Challenge is an educational initiative designed to familiarize the next generation of financial analysts with best practices in research. Noted industry professionals teach students how to research and report on a publicly-traded company.

Once the challenge kicked off last fall, the group got to work – even calling MICROS CEO Tom Giannopolous with questions. “We’ve easily contributed over 100 hours each to the Challenge,” says senior business administration major Colombo. “ We dedicated our winter break to this project and our dedication paid off.”

The teams compete by presenting their recommendations and findings to senior Wall Street executives. “As a team we recommended MICROS Systems as a ‘speculative buy,’” says senior Shah.

On Thursday, February 16, the School of Business team will face off against students from Dartmouth College, Fairfield University, and Rutgers University before a panel of expert judges at the NYSSA Conference Center in Times Square. The winning team will advance to the Global Final in Manhattan on April 11, 2012.

“The group has been working diligently since they heard the news,” says Yu. “They spent all of last weekend in school setting up their winning strategy, preparing their official responses to the reviewers’ comments, revising their power-slides, and rehearsing their speeches.”

For team members, the experience has been both educationally and personally

rewarding. First year MBA student Genzor confidently sums it up, “It’s a great experience, which I expect will go all the way through to the world finals.”

New Book Studies Influence of Apostle John’s Time in Exile

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (PRWEB) February 09, 2012

Floyd I. Buffenbarger’s new book “The History of Revelation” (published by WestBow Press) is an in-depth study of the history and cultural setting behind the Book of Revelation as it relates to apostle John’s banishment to the isle of Patmos.

An Excerpt from the book:

Revelation is a book of prophecy of God’s last call to an unbelieving population. A look at the Book of Revelation from a more historical view, viewed from scripture and yet to reveal the future of things to come each step from the Old Testament, until John wrote the book of Revelation in A.D. 96. The people during this era of time would have been familiar with the symbolism the apostle John used and as a result of the teachings of the Old Testament prophets and of the New Testament, apostles.

Buffenbarger examines the history of Asia Minor during this period, noting the roles of early Christians and the persecution of the pre-Christian Roman Empire.

“Patmos, during John’s time, was the place where prisoners were sent live out their last days,” Buffenbarger notes. “Yet today, Patmos is a beautiful Greek island resort in the Aegean Sea, just off the coast of Turkey.”

Buffenbarger believes it impossible to overstate the importance of this study. “The history of Revelation will give us a fresh look at the ancient prophecies of the past, present prophecies, and prophecies well into the future.”

Darwill Installs Océ ColorStream 3500 Inkjet Printing System

Océ ColorStream 3500

Trumbull, CT (PRWEB) February 08, 2012

Océ, a Canon Group Company and an international leader in digital document management, today announced that print provider Darwill has installed the Océ ColorStream® 3500 Inkjet Printing System.

The move is already paying back for the Hillside, Illinois-based print and graphic communications company. “We’re getting work we wouldn’t have been considered for before,” said Troy Van Dyke, Darwill co-owner and VP of sales and marketing. “It’s definitely getting us into more sophisticated, longer run jobs and campaigns.”

Founded in 1951, Darwill has made a name for itself in direct mail by continually changing, adapting and adding services to meet the evolving needs of its customers. An early adopter of digital printing technologies, the company continues to look for ways to differentiate and add value.

That mindset is precisely what prompted Darwill’s purchase of the Océ ColorStream 3500 system. Previously, the company relied on pre-printed shells to add personalization to direct mail for its customers in retail, travel and higher education. “Our lines kept increasing,” said Troy Van Dyke, Darwill co-owner and VP of sales and marketing. “We saw that the inkjet technology would help us streamline that whole operation, get rid of inventory and give us more flexibility with campaigns and personalization,” he said. “The Océ ColorStream 3500 system makes our large scale production much more manageable now, and the system offers a scalable solution as our business grows.”

Flexibility advantage

Print providers like Darwill are increasingly choosing the Océ ColorStream 3500 system for versatility and performance in book publishing and transactional direct mail applications, according to Michael Poulin, Océ Product Marketing Manager. “The greatest benefit with the Océ ColorStream 3500 system is its flexibility,” he said. “It allows you to easily switch from a monochrome system to a full-color system. That simplifies the transition from pre-printed shells to more sophisticated documents with variable personalization and color.”

“The flexibility of the system makes it ideal for companies that want to extend their range of print services and grow their businesses,” said Francis A. McMahon, Vice President, Marketing, Production Printing Systems division of Océ North America. “With the Océ ColorStream 3500 system, Darwill will have the opportunity to expand their capabilities into highly targeted direct mail and transpromo, while delivering more value-added services to customers through high-speed full-color inkjet printing.”

The Océ ColorStream 3500 system prints at 246 feet per minute with a maximum print width of 21.25″. That translates to 536 letter images per minute for a single unit or 1073 letter images per minute for a twin configuration – all at high-resolution, vivid full-color, and maximum monthly print volumes ranging from 16 million to 33 million letter images.

White paper in, full-color product out

The real benefit is for Darwill’s customers. “One of the big things is improving response rates,” said Van Dyke. “Before we could only print a phone number in black. Now, we can put store logos in color and we can produce shorter run campaigns, which helps our customers be more targeted and nimble in their marketing efforts.”

For Mark Pageau, Director of Sales at Darwill, it’s all about giving customers increased flexibility with messaging and time to market. “This gives them the advantage of doing variable and graphics in any color they would like,” he said. “Customers no longer have to be restricted by pre-printed rolls. They can put something into play, and we can be printing it as soon as the job is approved.”

Van Dyke sums it up, “We really can’t do what we want to do without the Océ ColorStream 3500 system.”

About the Océ ColorStream 3500 Inkjet Printing System

The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system was unveiled at Canon Expo in Tokyo in November 2010. The high-speed, high-quality, full-color inkjet printer simplifies the transition from monochrome to full-color or even five or six colors. It offers productivity and flexibility for high-speed color and monochrome production of transaction, transpromo, direct mail, book and manual applications. Industry-leading reliability, print quality and media range are testaments to Océ DigiDot® multilevel dot modulation technology.

Enhanced usability and productivity is made possible by a combination of unique features:

HeadSafe technology helps prevent nozzle clogging and minimizes lengthy purging processes. The ability to transition between monochrome-only and full-color printing promotes higher uptime and productivity levels.

Using passive RFID technology, the Océ InkSafe® feature monitors both the proper placement of the ink containers in the press and the ink’s shelf-life.

The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system provides consistent high-quality printing. The ability to print at varying speeds during ramp-up acceleration and ramp-down deceleration phases and to stop and restart without paper waste, increases operational efficiency and decreases turn-around time.

The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system provides a modular offering in various single and twin configurations from monochrome to full-color up to six color including MICR and spot colors. The production and media flexibility contribute to a future-proof solution that simplifies the transition of applications and business models to more sophisticated documents with variable personalization and smarter communication in color.

Parade or No Parade, Returning Veterans Face Uphill Battle

Rhinebeck, NY (PRWEB) February 14, 2012

As reported by the New York Times, in response to last week’s parade honoring the New York Giants, a growing coalition of veterans, elected officials, and other public figures are calling for a parade to honor veterans returning from Iraq. Whether a parade takes place or not, advocates point to a difficult road ahead, as veterans are faced with complex issues as they attempt to reintegrate into society, and deal with the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Omega Institute today announced it will offer four unique programs for veterans in 2012, and scholarships for veterans of any war.

“We see a critical need to support returning vets beyond what the current system is equipped to provide. The road to healing from the trauma of war is complex, and we are honored to offer veterans and their caregivers opportunities to aid in their recovery and reintegration,” said Carla Goldstein, chief external affairs officer at Omega.

For more than 20 years, Omega has been engaged with veterans and family members dealing with issues of PTSD. This year Omega will convene some of the nation’s most forward thinking health experts and veterans’ advocates, to collaborate on best practices in healing modalities in an effort to help more veterans get treatment, more quickly. Additionally, in response to the rise in sexual assault, homelessness, and other issues servicewomen face, Omega will offer a new program specifically for female veterans and active duty servicewomen. Scholarships are available for Military & Veteran Women’s Healing Retreat and The Costs of War, Violence & Denial: A Retreat for Veterans Living with PTSD.

2012 Programs:

The Costs of War, Violence & Denial: A Retreat for Veterans Living with PTSD

April 18–22. Open to veterans, their families, and friends. Scholarships are available.

The attempts of traditional counseling and therapy, although valuable, often leave spiritual wounds unaddressed. This veterans retreat teaches many different forms of meditation as a path to healing. Author and Zen Buddhist monk, Claude AnShin Thomas, shares his inspiring story from Vietnam combat to Buddhist practice as a road map for others trapped in cyclical patterns of response from any type of traumatic experience. This retreat is open to people of any religious or spiritual tradition. For scholarship information, please visit,eOmega.org/scholarships or call 845.266.4444, ext. 180.

Veterans, Trauma & Treatment: Best Mind-Body Practices: A Professional Veterans Conference Addressing Resiliency to Recovery

October 12–14. Open to health-care professionals, psychologists, social workers, caregivers, and counselors working with veterans suffering with PTSD and their families.

This conference brings together an unprecedented gathering of experts in trauma and the treatment of trauma for veterans using complementary and alternative medicine. The conference will also touch on resilience studies, and some remarkable trauma prevention work being undertaken with combat and noncombat soldiers. Join Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founding director of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and other extraordinary keynote speakers and workshop leaders who will discuss many complementary and alternative mind-body approaches. For a complete list of presenters, visit eOmega.org.

Teaching Yoga in Military Communities, Part 2: Advanced Teaching Skills for Addressing Combat-Related Issues                                                                                                                                 October 14–19. Professional training for yoga teachers. Participants need to complete Part 1 (teleseminar) before attending Part 2.

As the United States military adopts more evidence-based, mind-body approaches and seeks to hire competent instructors, specialized training focused on military culture and combat-related conditions will be a great benefit. This 5-day certification program for yoga teachers, provides a solid foundation in the art and science of teaching yoga in a military setting. Seasoned teachers, with medical, mental health, and military backgrounds, who have significant experience teaching yoga to servicemen and servicewomen, will train teachers in the effective use of yoga for post-deployment physical and psychological conditions.

Military & Veteran Women’s Healing Retreat

October 14–19. This program, including room and board, is available at no cost to qualified female veterans or active duty women in the military.

With the alarming rise of sexual assault in the military, and many other unique challenges, the wounds of war often run deeper and longer for female veterans. Retired Maj. Nisha Money, former chief of United States Air Force Fitness, and a team of healing arts therapists, along with financial, employment, and life-skill reintegration experts, will guide attendees through a variety of holistic healing modalities and other helpful resources. For an application and complete list of teachers, visit eOmega.org.

THE DE BEERS DIFFERENCE

De Beers Diamond Jewellers is the ultimate destination for diamond jewellery. With over 120 years of diamond experience to draw on, De Beers Diamond Jewellers go well beyond the ‘4C’s’ of cut, clarity, colour and carat weight to capture unmatched Fire, Life, and Brilliance, providing the most beautiful diamonds in the world set in magnificent designs. The creation of timelessly elegant diamond jewellery – from selecting the world’s finest diamonds to impeccable craftsmanship and sophisticated designs – is the De Beers difference, an absolute expression of the Art of Diamond Jewellery.

De Beers is proud to be the only brand to demonstrate the beauty of its diamonds, using the De Beers Iris. This proprietary technology, found in each De Beers store provides clients with an objective way to see the beauty of their diamond through the eyes of an expert.

THE DE BEERS GUARANTEE

Each piece of De Beers jewellery is certified with a De Beers passport and each polished diamond above 0.20 carats is microscopically branded with the De Beers Marque. The De Beers Passport documents the specifications of your diamond jewellery and is your guarantee that every single De Beers diamond is natural, untreated, conflict-free and responsibly sourced and crafted. The De Beers Marque, using technology patented by the De Beers Group, is invisible to the naked eye and ensures that each diamond is individually catalogued in the De Beers diamond registry, confirming its identity as a De Beers official diamond, to provide clients with a total peace of mind.

DE BEERS DIAMOND JEWELLERS

De Beers Diamond Jewellers was established in 2001 as an independently managed and operated company by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s leading luxury products group, and De Beers SA, the world’s premier diamond mining and marketing company.
